Cicero Welcomes New Mexican Consul General
Town President Larry Dominick and Town officials Clerk Maria Punzo-Arias, Supervisor Joe Virruso, Assessor Emilio Cundari, Collector Fran Reitz, and Trustees Larry Banks, Bob Porod, Victor Garcia and John Cava officially welcomed Reyna Torres Mendivil, the first woman named as a Consul General for Mexico, representing Chicago and the Midwest.
"I am honored to be in the Town of Cicero. Mexico and the Mexican comminity have a historic relationship with the Town of Cicero. Many Mexican citizens have made Cicero as their home," Mendivil said.
"The government of Mexico is very aware of the great services that the Town of Cicero provides to its residents and I am very honored to be here today. I am looking forward to work with all of you."
Mendivil was introduced to the board by Hispanic Liaison Frank Aguilar and Maru Ayala who is the chairwoman of the Cicero Mexican Cultural Committee.
Following the meeting, President Dominick and the board honored Consul General Mendivil with a luncheon reception for the public held in the main foyer of the Town of CIcero Town Hall. Mendivil was presented with a resolution from the Town Board honoring her appointment to Chicago.
